Africa is Everywhere

"Another Afrocentric wind is rising, and Africa’s visual influence is touching film, music and fashion."

Best day ever.

Favorites Favorites

Cue applause.

Love fluffy skirts. I'd wear mine with a leather jacket instead, though.

Mom gave me sequin leggings for Christmas, and I thought, what the hell do you wear with sequin leggings? Ta da! Chanel Iman does it perfectly.

I have boyfriend jeans from Gap that I distressed (see the "before" below), and I love how this girl wears hers.

Giggity Gags.

Great NYT article on my favorite lady of eccentricity.

My favorite quote:

"[Lady Gaga] is a 23-year-old New Yorker of outsized ambition and middling talents, a onetime Catholic school girl with a Duchampian show-business handle, a self-promoter so tireless she made Paris Hilton look like a lay-about; a woman so assured of her superlatively good bad taste that she was in a fetish-wear gown to meet the Queen of England."

After Christmas Lazy

Since our Christmas was spent cloudy and rainy, here are some pictures from when it was beautiful and snowy earlier in the week.

Sparky in the snow

Here's one of my favorite presents - a canvas tote from my sister with my nickname - the Baggage Camel - monogrammed on it (since I always end up carrying everything, from shopping bags to Starbucks). Eccentricity's our middle name.

Here's the best of all - a vintage South Africa tourism poster from Great Finds and Design, a local consignment shop. I'm obsessed!

LOVE THIS

Thanks V Magazine for an awesome January issue with runway staple Jacquelyn Jablonski and the gorgeous plus-size model, Crystal Renn.

Christmas is coming, Charlie's getting fat..

I'm on wrapping duty (not to mention a little behind on a few presents), so Charlie's Boots will have new updates soon!

In the meantime, I know there's a lot of hate regarding rompers out there, but I want this Robert Rodriguez one for New Years...

Anyone else love non-frumpy-70s-era rompers?

Rodarte for Target

Finally here! My bottom line: It's ehh.

For all the absurd hype its been receiving, I found the Mulleavy's new line to be outdated and just too much for the Target demographic. 90s grunge-esque lace inlays and see-through tulle tops with bow sleeves... it's a lot going on. Target shoppers are looking for trendy style on a budget, not the cheap version of Alexander McQueen in his creepy phase.

That being said, I think it was also marketed wrong. I love their leopard mini-dress, but in the promos, they make the model look like a tranny extra from Clueless.

!?

But here's the same dress. Even still, the lace tights amplify what we disliked most about the 90s: maxed-out grunge.

The same goes for this lace-and-nude dress - just styled wrong.

Oh well, to each her own. Either way, go check it out for yourself before it's gone!

Gifts!

Kudos to my best friend Lo for creating a really cool montage!

Style Loves

Since post-blizzard, I'm going to the Ravens game today with Dad looking like this (or so Mom suggests - "Honey, this hat is GREAT!"), I figure I'll post some looks that I love from my favorite community style site, Lookbook.nu, where non-arctic apparel still reigns.

Snow Day

... and apparently only about 8 inches into the 20 we're supposed to get. Send me back to Africa!

So in the spirit of longing for the South African summer again... I decided to put up my favorite pictures from the past semester abroad (I have well over 1,300 pictures). Enjoy!
